Project Overview

Airtemp has played a crucial role in ensuring optimal air quality, temperature control, and energy efficiency across multiple projects at Eastbourne College. Through a combination of installation, maintenance, and phased development, we have delivered tailored HVAC solutions across teaching blocks, sports facilities, and student construction centres. Our work has supported the long-term sustainability and comfort of the college environment for both students and staff.

Project Challenges

  • Diverse Infrastructure Needs: Different areas within the college required unique heating, cooling, and ventilation solutions tailored to their specific functions.
  • Phased Implementation: Projects were divided into distinct phases to accommodate both new developments and ongoing maintenance without disrupting academic or recreational activities.
  • Energy Efficiency & Cost Reduction: The college sought sustainable HVAC systems that would lower energy consumption while maintaining a high-performance indoor climate.
  • Regulatory Compliance: All installations had to adhere to statutory compliance regulations for HVAC systems in educational and sports facilities.

Phase 1: Teaching Block & Cricket Pavilion

The first phase involved delivering climate control solutions for:

  • 32 new classrooms
  • A three-storey cricket pavilion with a second-floor seminar room
  • An ICT suite and a new school shop

Air conditioning was provided via three Mitsubishi VRF systems, incorporating a mix of wall-mounted, 4-way cassette, and ducted units. These were linked to a central controller integrated with the Building Management System (BMS) for efficient operation. Ventilation was supplied through a full fresh air packaged Air Handling Unit (AHU).

Phase 2: Sports Block & Recreational Facilities

 The second phase extended HVAC coverage to the college’s athletic and social spaces, including:

  • Sports centre, squash courts, gym, fitness suite, dance studio
  • Swimming pool and dining facilities
  • Café, function/seminar rooms, and exhibition spaces

A further three Mitsubishi VRF systems were installed across these areas, providing wall-mounted, cassette, and ducted units, all centrally controlled via the BMS. The ventilation system included 16 full fresh air packaged AHUs, specialist extract fans for kitchen and dishwashing areas, and chemically resistant extract fans. Extensive ductwork installations included fire-rated ducts in the kitchen and powder-coated ducts in the swimming pool.

Ongoing Maintenance & Energy Optimisation

To ensure long-term efficiency, Airtemp provides quarterly maintenance and servicing for Eastbourne College, covering a broad range of HVAC assets, including:

  • 18 air handling units
  • Hot and cold water supply systems
  • Water pumps, boilers, calorifier tanks
  • Gas heating and air conditioning units

By maintaining and optimising these systems, we have significantly reduced energy consumption and costs, ensuring a comfortable, compliant, and high-performing indoor environment for students and staff.
